Keeping Up Appearances

I’ve just noticed an article on a news website that says, according to a poll, both male and female bosses tend to frown upon employees who wear too much make up.

Notwithstanding all the implications such a statement has, it made me think about what is acceptable in a therapeutic, clinical context; how should we present ourselves as counsellors and therapists? What does our appearance say about our practice, our attitude, our personality? Should it indeed say anything at all?

You may still be in the early stages of your Chrysalis course but even so, it is something you will need to consider at some stage.

Of course, points of view on such matters will always be on the whole subjective. But the colours you wear, your style of attire, even the aftershave/perfume you wear, will all convey something to your clients.
