Dr Chris Forester - Co-Principal read biog

Chris holds a First Class Degree in Philosophy & Theology from Oxford University and an interdisciplinary D.Phil in Jungian psychology, also at Oxford. He co-taught a series of seminars in the Psychology of Religion with Archbishop Dr Rowan Williams for the University of Oxford Faculty of Theology. After a Visiting Studentship to the University of Chicago, working with a world expert on Pastoral Care and Psychology, Chris held a University Lectureship in Religious Studies specialising in the Psychology of Religion, before leaving academia to concentrate on his interest in therapy. Qualifying as a psychodynamic psychotherapist and hypnotherapist, Chris utilised his combined expertise in higher education and psychotherapy to launch Chrysalis. In 2000, the best-selling novelist Peter James based a character in his novel Faith on some of Chris's work in complementary therapies. Chris has held many prominent positions in therapy, including Chair of Trustees of the Hypnotherapy Society. He has appeared internationally on TV and Radio. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and Royal Society for the Promotion of Health, and holds numerous profession-related qualifications. Most important personally to Chris is that he is a graduate of the Hoffman Quadrinity Process. Chris is Co-Principal.

Sharon Forester - Co-Principal read biog

Sharon has worked in the therapy field since 1998. Although she sees varied cases, her specialities are all areas of bereavement and loss and all types of regression work. She does seminars with Hospices to promote the use of end of life therapy for the terminally ill and their families that include the application of hypnosis, and the mind-body-spirit connection. Alongside this Sharon has managed and developed a charity - providing counselling for carers of all ages and looking after people who are terminally or chronically ill. This service provided both face to face and telephone support. She has also worked in Education and Training for many years in various organisations including the Education and Training department of the Parkinson's Disease Society. Sharon has been teaching hypnotherapy, psychotherapy and counselling for Chrysalis since 2002. She is a senior member of the Candidate Selection and Interview Panel, is Director of Course Development & Training and is Co-Principal.

Marie Easden - Deputy Principal read biog

Marie has in excess of 30 years experience in business administration, including working as an administrator at director level of an NHS Trust and responsible for the day-to-day management administration at an Optometrists. Current responsibilities include running the central office and managing the growing team of administrators. Marie has significant input into company strategy, deals with a host of welfare issues and liaises with our tutors and interviewers.

Linda Selway - Senior Administrator read biog

Responsibilities include liaison with tutors and venues regarding the timetabling of all classes and the administrative processing of student diplomas. Linda has over twenty years experience in administration including working as a secretary, receptionist and PA. Prior to joining Chrysalis she spent seven years working as a supervisor in a Customer Relations department for a large national house builder. Nicholas Cullen - Tutor read biog

Nicholas Cullen is a qualified ‘European Psychotherapeutic Counsellor', an accredited Cruse Bereavement Counsellor and an Individual Member of the BACP. His specialised areas lie within the fields of Bereavement (Loss), and working with Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse (Trauma). He has a private practice in East Sussex and has undertaken therapeutic work with two national organisations: Cruse and Survivors UK. Running concurrent with this therapeutic work, Nick has taught in Adult Education on counselling and psychotherapy. Nick's therapeutic journey began in the field of psychodynamics/analysis which formed the basis of his early work as a counsellor/therapist; today Nick sees himself as an Integrative Therapist. He has continued his personal and professional development and is extensively read in the field of psychotherapy and he has a comprehensive understanding of many different theories. Nick is also well read in the fields of para-psychology, meta-physics and philosophy. Nick teaches Counselling and Psychotherapy for Chrysalis and is also an essay and case study marker.

Anne Gisby - Tutor read biog

Anne has studied to degree level in counselling, undertaking a further diploma in Post traumatic stress counselling with a CBT model underpinning practice. Ongoing training has included CBT and cancer care, systemic practice and group work studies and professional development in psychosynthesis. Anne has 12 years supervised practice ongoing training and CPD as a counsellor, settings include; the voluntary sector, private practice, and several years in a clinical setting. As a trainer Anne has eighteen years experience in the voluntary sector, further and Adult Education. She continues to maintain private practice and a management role in education.

Kay Milton - Tutor read biog

Kay Milton is qualified in Psychodynamic Counselling, Transpersonal Therapy, Dream Analysis, and Life Coaching. In addition she has studied Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Zen Therapy and received training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Maggie Rodgers - Tutor read biog

Maggie is an experienced counsellor and has worked in a health centre and currently in private practice. Her practice is integrative, drawing on models and theories as are appropriate to the needs of the client. Her private work includes some work for small companies and is with clients both on a short and long term basis presenting with a full range of issues. Since completing her training in 1999, she has worked for a mental health charity, setting up a telephone helpline for people experiencing emotional and mental distress. Jackie Smith is a graduate of London University and has a diploma in Counselling and a Post Graduate Diploma in psychosexual therapy. Jackie started her counselling career as a volunteer with an alcohol advice centre in Kent. After qualifying she worked for a primary healthcare service which provides counselling in General Practice throughout Kent, working with a wide range of presenting issues. Jackie also worked as a tutor on a diploma in counselling course, run by the then ‘Thameslink Healthcare Services NHS Trust, as a personal development group facilitator and a supervisor of trainee counsellors. Martin Faulkner - Tutor read biog

Martin graduated with a BA Hons degree in Theology and Religious Studies from Manchester University in 1993, Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Bolton University in 2001, and Salford University with a Post Graduate Certificate in Supervision in 2006. At present he is completing an MSc in Counselling Studies and plans to continue with a PhD researching mental health concerns in recruitment to high-intensity faith groups. He has fifteen years experience in delivering counselling training courses from foundation to diploma, performing quality assurance audits including accreditation and internal verification for external moderating bodies, working within an OSFTED inspected setting and NVQ remit in health studies, social care, psychology and communications. He also lectures in higher education on counselling diploma and degree programmes and holds workshops in counselling specialisms. Martin is also the senior counsellor in tertiary education and has established community-based links across Greater Manchester. Martin, originally from Cheshire, lives in Manchester where he has a private practice and specialises in sexuality issues, eating disorders and post traumatic stress disorder.

Christina Holland - Tutor read biog

Christina is a Relate-trained counsellor with over 15 years’ experience. She is in private practice and works with individuals, couples, young people and the elderly. Her own training began with basic counselling skills then psychodynamic-based training as a couples’ counsellor. More recently she studied systems theory and has an interest in CBT, solution focussed therapy and narrative therapy. She uses an integrative approach in her work with clients. As a trainer, Christina has delivered courses on a wide range of subjects, including counselling, communication, parenting, and life skills. Lorna Cordwell - Tutor read biog

Lorna Cordwell is a full time hypnotherapist with a private practice in Harley Street, London. She holds an honours degree in Social Psychology from the London School of Economics (University of London); and a Diploma in Hypnosis and Psychology from the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy. Over her years in practice, she has worked with hundreds of clients to help with a variety of issues. Jane Anghelatos - Tutor read biog

Jane gained a degree in History from London University in 1978 and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from Oxford Polytechnic the following year. She taught both in the secondary and primary sectors. From 1986 until 1995 she worked as a Training Manager in the NHS and Local Government. During this time she completed the IPD Certificate in Training and Diploma in Training Management. She played a pivotal role in collaboration between a Community Trust with Salford and Middlesex Universities to establish a self managed learning programme using action learning sets. She was awarded a Masters in Self Managed Learning from Middlesex University in 1997. She qualified as a counsellor in 2001 with the Diploma in Psychological Counselling at the University of Surrey. She is a full member of the BACP and has worked as a counsellor in GP surgeries since 1999. She also sees clients privately. For several years she was a client assessor for the Wimbledon Guild Counselling Service. She took the one year course in psychotherapy at Spectrum in North London in 2002. In 2003 she gained the Certificate in the Educational and Therapeutic Application of the Arts at The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education and continued her studies there for a further year. Helen Thompson - Tutor read biog

Helen has been working as a Psychodynamic Counsellor for ten years,. She is holds MBACP(Accredited status applied for) and is member of the BACP CCYP (Counselling Children and Young People) Division, and she is also a CCC Registered Counsellor. Deborah Greene - Tutor read biog

Deborah has a Degree in Psychology, a Diploma in Counselling, a Diploma in Bereavement Counselling and a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and holds BACP Accredited status. She has been employed as a counsellor since she qualified in 1998. Deborah has worked as a crisis counsellor at Lifeline Western Sydney (the Australian equivalent of the Samaritans); has worked in a GP practice and has been a counselling department manager at a Hospice. Deborah has been maintaining a private practice as a counsellor since arriving back in England in 1999. Currently Deborah works in private practice as a counsellor and supervisor and also works as a student counsellor at an American university campus near her home. Deborah has taught counselling skills for Lifeline Western Sydney, has taught listening skills at GIFTS Hospice and bereavement counselling at GIFTS Hospice, Deborah has also taught on a course entitled, Death, Dying and Bereavement, for health care professionals. Deborah has been active as a volunteer since the early 1970’s. Maggie Lawson - Tutor read biog

Maggie is an Accredited BACP Counsellor with a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology. She has worked in variety of settings over the last fifteen years including a G.P. practise, Private Psychiatry, the workplace and in a College of Further Education. Maggie works in an integrative way mainly with cognitive-behaviour therapy, attachment theory and Clarkson’s Relationship model. Steven Lucas - Tutor read biog

Steve developed a passion for listening early on in life, often being referred to by friends as a ‘good sounding board’. He studied Psychology at college and then went on to complete a BSc in Psychology and Diploma’s in Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. For the last seven years Steve has been a Samaritans volunteer and currently works as Deputy Director for Volunteer Care. As well as answering phone calls and emails Steve is a volunteer in his local prison. His role in the prison is to train selected inmates to be Listeners. Listeners provide invaluable support to their fellow inmates in time of crisis or emotional difficulty. Steve is also on the Samaritans training team and teaches their counselling programme to new volunteers. Steve is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and the NHS Directory of Complementary and Alternative Practitioners. He has his own private counselling practise in Northamptonshire and also works for the NHS as an addiction advisor.

Lawrence Railton - Tutor read biog

Lawrence is a BACP Accredited Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor who trained and began working in Brighton, E.Sussex. Helen Lister - Tutor read biog

Helen's interest in health and well-being started back in 1992 when she was involved, as a researcher, collecting data for a profile about the health of people throughout Leeds highlighting inequalities. From there, she embarked on a path of lifelong learning in complementary therapies, working as a private therapist and in the community. Running alongside her therapeutic work she qualified and worked as a tutor in adult education and at FE colleges. She is qualified in remedial massage, aromatherapy and reflexology. Her desire to work with clients on an emotional level resulted in her completing an MA in Counselling at the University of Nottingham. Her thesis contributed to the under-researched area of client's experiences of counselling within a voluntary agency which raised some issues for the counselling profession and for the delivery of counselling services to cancer patients and carers. Today, Helen sees herself as a therapist applying the holistic approach to client's health and well-being. She believes that central to any therapy experience is the relationship clients and therapists have with one another

Melanie Phelps - Tutor read biog

Melanie began her working career as a nurse in 1983, she has fulfilled a number of roles during her career including practice nurse, staff nurse and teacher of clinical Nurses. Melanie then changed direction and has been working as a hypnotherapist, psychotherapist, counsellor and psychologist since 2001. She currently runs her own practice. Zena Millward - Tutor read biog

Zena began her career as a therapist in 2001 working from an integrative psychotherapy perspective. She has held a Post Graduate Diploma in integrative psychotherapy since 2004 and is currently waiting for her dissertation results for her Masters Degree. During her career as a therapist she has had a private psychotherapy practice in Derby since 2002 and also continues her work as a work place counsellor as part of an Occupational Health Team. Zena has a particular interest in trauma and also holds an intermediate qualification in EMDR therapy. She has experience in delivering stress management courses to managers within organisations, educational establishments and also university students. Zena began her teaching career in 1995 during her previous experience as a Registered General Nurse. She studied the concepts of Teaching, Learning and Assessing as part of her Advanced Professional Studies BSc (Hons) and sustained an overall First Class Honours Degree. Since then she has experience as a lecturer at the University of Derby. Consequently, she became a co-author of a published Teaching, Learning and Assessing distant leaning package which gained international recognition. Zena has served two years with the Royal Army of Oman as an Officer providing Accident and Emergency services within the Middle East. During this time she also became involved in developing and delivering courses and lectures for members of the Omani Army. This resulted in her becoming a speaker at a National Conference Day within Oman offering a critical evaluation on the concept of Reflective Practice. Due to Zena having an excellent local reputation as a therapist, BBC Radio Derby utilise her as a regular contributor to their live shows to discuss many topical issues including psychological trauma, relationship issues and general human behaviour.

Jackie is a Chartered Psychologist, qualified teacher of Psychology and qualified Counsellor. She is also a registered practitioner in therapeutic play skills which enables her to work in a creative way with children and young people as well as adults. Jackie is currently employed as a school therapist as part of a multi-disciplinary team meeting the needs of children and young people in a cluster of schools in Leeds. She works in private practice as well, often with adults via ‘employee assistance programmes’. Her background as a Psychologist was firmly rooted in the experimental tradition, giving her a good grounding for working with CBT based approaches to counselling, but her Integrative counselling training developed Jackie’s appreciation of the many therapeutic methods we can draw on in our work to help each person address their needs on an individual basis.
